Each pumpkin you destroy gives 1 score point. You start with 2 lives and lose one life whenever a pumpkin reaches you. When both lives are lost the game ends unless you win a second chance.
After losing both lives you can pick one of 4 bonus pumpkins to try for an extra life. If you are lucky you get another life and continue playing.
